Dr. Kari Jenkins joined the Tybee Animal Care team as Veterinarian and Medical Director in May of 2013. She started out in the veterinary profession over 20 years ago working as a kennel assistant in an animal shelter. She proceeded to work as a receptionist, veterinary assistant, technician and manager before attending Veterinary School. Dr. Jenkins has graduated from Palm Beach State College, Florida Atlantic University and North Carolina State University with degrees in Chemistry, Biology and Animal Science. She spent 14 months at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in both Small and Large Animal Clinics. Dr. Jenkins completed an externship at Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center with a focus on Internal Medicine and Emergency/Critical Care. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in January of 2010.
She opened Savannah Animal Care in March of 2014 to expand the services offered to the clients of Tybee Animal Care and residents of the Savannah, GA area to include 24 hour staffed emergency care in a convenient location. As the hospitals continued to grow, in March of 2016, she helped add Whitemarsh Animal Care to the Animal Care family to provide an additional convenient location serving pets in Whitemarsh Island and Wilmington Island, GA.
Dr. Jenkins enjoys working with all types of animals including exotics and wildlife. Her goal is to keep your pets happy and healthy through preventative medicine, proper nutrition and early detection of disease. In cases of illness or injury, she strives to get your pet back on their feet, no matter how many they happen to have. Her areas of special interest are internal medicine, emergency/critical care, dentistry, dermatology and ophthalmology.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Jenkins enjoys travel, photography, SCUBA diving and boating. Dr. Jenkins has had many different types of pets over the years. Her furry family consists of dogs and cats. She is engaged to Tom and has one daughter.
